Are public schools dumbing down our kids?
My mother who is currently 84 has been telling me to take my kids out of public school for years, and home school my kids instead. She has been warning me that public school systems have been dumbing down our kids for years. When I had one child, I thought that would be a great option, but when my second child came along, I soon realized that I would have a more difficult time trying to teach two kids at home, considering they are 7.5 years apart. I, too am worried about the “dumbing down” of our children from the days when I went to school (1960s-mid 1970s). But it’s a complex issue. If we apply the “old standards” to this new culture, it doesn’t seem quite fair. And, as you point out, home schooling isn’t always the solution.
