I help businesses large and small to avoid losses from fraud, either from internal or external sources. What is fraud?
- A deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain.
- A piece of trickery; a trick.
- One that defrauds; a cheat.
- One who assumes a false pose; an impostor.
How can you be a victim of fraud? Have you seen the news about Koss Incorporated? They have been defrauded for $31 million dollars, from all reports, this is money that the shareholders lost, and will never regain, I doubt even if they have insurance for fraud, it wont get paid out on, I would hate to have to answer all the shareholders as to why this took so long to be caught.
Have you been a victim of Identity Theft? That too is fraud.
Why should you listen to me?
I am a Certified Identity Theft Risk Management Specialist; I know and understand how fraud can happen and the steps to avoid.
Most persons that commit fraud don’t get caught for an extended time, but they do get caught.
Most people believe that only men commit fraud; think of Bernie Madoff and other Ponzi scheme masterminds.
Most persons believe that fraud couldn’t happen to them, or they would never be in a position that they would do something like that; WRONG.
In 1997 I committed Fraud, I didn’t plan on it, I reasoned with myself that I would keep track of the money and I would pay it back, I did pay the money back, but I was also convicted of fraud, loss of accomplishments to that point, loss of my good name, and answered the Questions of Why?
I am here to tell you from a hindsight viewpoint, it wasn’t worth it; I was a single mother who was trying to make ends meet. I took the money because my child support wasn’t coming in, I almost lost my apartment, but in the end, I still took the money.
After I was enrolled in the Felon Club, of which there is no escape, I found that this club is really hard to live in, I was no longer an individual, I was a felon; that was it, never to be trusted again, I strived to not do anything outside the law again, I gained experience with my certification, but still my past haunts my every move.
I had a choice in 1997, I chose wrong, I have a choice today, and I choose to be a valued part of society, and help businesses not suffer the losses like Koss, and even help individuals to avoid fraudsters from taken them for a ride.
